This search covers a broad stretch of southeast Jacksonville, from the established neighborhoods of Southside and Mandarin to the Bartram Park area. Mandarin sits on the east side of the St. Johns River just north of the St. Johns County line and grew up as a river community of orange groves; author Harriet Beecher Stowe spent winters there after the Civil War, and her book Palmetto Leaves came from those years. The Buckman Bridge (I-295) crosses the river from Mandarin toward Orange Park, and NAS Jacksonville is roughly 11 miles away by car. Farther east, Southside takes in Baymeadows, Deerwood and the St. Johns Town Center shopping district. Public schools in this area are part of Duval County Public Schools.
