This part of northeast St. Johns County lies west of the Intracoastal Waterway and north of St. Augustine, taking in the Palencia area along US 1 and the neighborhoods around the Northeast Florida Regional Airport, about four miles north of the historic city. Palencia is a master-planned community on the Tolomato River with a golf course and a mixed-use Village Center, while the airport area mixes older homes, newer subdivisions and rural lots off US 1. Downtown St. Augustine and its beaches are a short drive south and east. For military buyers this is a longer commute, roughly 28 miles to NAS Jacksonville and 35 miles to Naval Station Mayport from Palencia.
