 Zones A through F

Duval County uses a letter system, A through F. The City of Jacksonville and Duval County Emergency Management built the map with the weather service and regional planners. The river and the Atlantic meet here, so the map is more complicated than a single coastline.

The city does not tie a storm category to a letter the way older guides did. Evacuation is ordered for the zones that storm puts at risk. Follow the order for that storm. A screenshot from a prior year is not an order.

As of fall 2026, use the live JaxReady map. Zones get reviewed. Your cousin's letter from three houses down is not your letter.

 Zone A goes first

Zone A goes first. It includes the coast and, in many orders, mobile homes and RVs. JaxReady describes Zone A as the most vulnerable areas, and it includes manufactured homes and mobile homes in that first call.

That mobile-home rule is why an inland lot can still be told to leave when Zone A is called. The order will say so. Read the order. Do not assume your park was left out.

We will not assign a beach street, a Mayport street, or a river street to Zone A on this page. The coast is in the description. Your address still has to be looked up.

 B through E, and Zone F

As storm effects get worse, orders can step from B toward E. Each letter is a wider cut of the map, not a nickname for a neighborhood. San Marco is not a letter. Arlington is not a letter. Mandarin is not a letter.

Zone F is different. JaxReady says it accounts for areas likely to flood from rainfall or other hazards, not the same surge ladder as A through E. Do not treat F as the last surge zone and then ignore a rainfall call.

If you do not feel safe, leave early even if your letter has not been called. Shelters open when the city says they are open. Do not drive to a school because it was a shelter in a prior storm.

JaxReady also publishes routes. From the beaches, traffic is sent west on J. Turner Butler Boulevard, Beach Boulevard, or Atlantic Boulevard, then toward I-10. Those are routes. They are not zone labels for the houses on those roads.

 Do not pin a street to a letter

We are not going to tell you that a block of Atlantic Boulevard, a street in Ortega, or a cul-de-sac off San Jose is a certain letter. The parcel decides. Two houses that share a fence can still need a lookup each.

Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, and Jacksonville Beach are three cities with three city halls. All three are in Duval, and all three are on the JaxReady map. A neighbor's letter is a clue to go look, not an answer.

NAS Jacksonville sits on the west bank of the St. Johns. Naval Station Mayport is at the mouth of the river. Blount Island is on the east side, north of the Dames Point area. Base housing and an off-base house a mile away are separate lookups. The gate address is not your zone.

 Evacuation zones and FEMA flood zones

An evacuation zone and a FEMA flood zone answer different questions. The evacuation letter tells you when the city may tell you to leave. A flood zone tells an insurer and a lender how water risk is mapped for a policy and a loan.

Zone AE and Zone X are flood insurance maps. They are not evacuation letters. A house can sit in one and not the other. Read flood insurance zone AE and X zone flood insurance when you are on the insurance question. This page is the evacuation question.

Wind insurance is its own quote. None of these maps is a premium. Get the quote before you waive an inspection or stretch the payment. The policy is the policy. The letter on the evacuation map does not set it.

 Outside Duval, use that county's map

JaxReady is the City of Jacksonville and Duval County tool. Orange Park and Fleming Island are Clay. Julington Creek is St. Johns. Yulee and Fernandina Beach are Nassau. Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, and St. Augustine are St. Johns too. Use the emergency management map for the county where the house sits.

A Duval lookup on a Clay address is the wrong tool. The commute to Mayport or NAS Jacksonville does not move the house into Duval. Homestead already works that way. Evacuation works that way too.
