John Gorrie Condo Homes for Sale

John Gorrie Condo occupies one of Jacksonville's best-known historic buildings: the former John Gorrie Junior High School in Riverside, a Mediterranean Revival landmark built in the 1920s and later converted into condominium residences. Riverside, on the west bank of the St. Johns River just southwest of downtown, is among the city's oldest streetcar neighborhoods, known for its oak canopy, its Five Points shops and its mix of historic houses and apartments. The conversion kept the school's tall windows, wide corridors and period architecture, so the condominiums here have a character no new building in the city reproduces. The building takes its name from Dr. John Gorrie, the Florida physician credited as a pioneer of mechanical refrigeration and air conditioning. Memorial Park and the riverwalk are a short walk away.
