Lincolnville is the historic African American neighborhood of St. Augustine, set just southwest of the downtown historic district between the San Sebastian River and Maria Sanchez Creek. Founded in 1866 by formerly enslaved people who first rented land on what was then the edge of town, Lincolnville grew into the center of the city's Black community, and it holds a documented place in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. The neighborhood, much of which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is laid out in a tight grid of narrow streets holding Victorian-era wood-frame houses, some dating to the late 1800s, alongside smaller cottages and later infill — all within walking distance of downtown St. Augustine's shops, restaurants and bayfront. Public schools are part of the St. Johns County School District. Homes here reach the market infrequently, and each listing is a piece of the neighborhood's long history.
