Murray Hill Gardens takes its name from Murray Hill, the historic Jacksonville neighborhood on the city's Westside, just west of Riverside and Avondale and a few miles southwest of Downtown across the St. Johns River. Murray Hill grew up along the old streetcar line, and its commercial heart still runs along Edgewood Avenue, lined with small shops, restaurants and local businesses. The surrounding blocks are residential and tree-shaded, with homes from different eras set along a regular street grid close to Fishweir Creek. Public schools serving the neighborhood are part of Duval County Public Schools, and the St. Johns River, Five Points and downtown Jacksonville are all within a short drive to the east.
