San Marco Courts is a small residential grouping in St. Augustine, named for San Marco Avenue, the old road that runs north from the Castillo de San Marcos through the city's uptown and into the neighborhoods along the Tolomato River. This is the working, residential side of St. Augustine, north of the historic downtown, where local streets stand a short distance from the bayfront, the Fountain of Youth grounds and the marinas and boatyards of the river. Housing in this part of the city tends toward older, modest homes on small lots, built as the town expanded northward in the twentieth century, with Vilano Beach and its bridge a few minutes east across the water and the old town's restaurants and landmarks just south.
