Sherwood brings together the Sherwood, Sherwood Forest, and Sherwood Hills subdivision names in northwest Jacksonville, in Duval County. Together they form one of the northwest side's established postwar residential areas, a grid of local streets inland from the Ribault River, built out largely in the middle of the last century as Jacksonville expanded beyond its historic core. Housing across the three names is predominantly detached homes on individual lots, and the area's everyday shopping and services sit along Lem Turner Road, Edgewood Avenue, and the other arterial corridors of the northwest side. Public schools are part of Duval County Public Schools, and downtown Jacksonville is southeast of the neighborhoods across the river bend.
