St. Johns County stretches along Florida's Atlantic coast between Duval County to the north and Flagler County to the south, with the St. Johns River forming its western edge and I-95 and US 1 running its length. St. Augustine, the county seat, anchors the south with its historic downtown and beaches on Anastasia Island, while Ponte Vedra Beach, St. Augustine Beach, the St. Johns community and fast-growing corridors along County Road 210 and State Road 16 fill out the north and center. Housing across the county ranges from historic homes and beach cottages to golf communities, master-planned subdivisions and rural acreage inland. Public schools are provided by the St. Johns County School District, a central fact of settlement here, and A1A follows the barrier islands past Vilano Beach and Crescent Beach.
