Summer Haven is a small, historic beach community in southeastern St. Johns County, just south of Matanzas Inlet on a narrow strip of land between the marsh of the Matanzas River and the Atlantic Ocean. Reached by Old A1A south of St. Augustine Beach, the community began as a cottage retreat and remains a single row-and-cluster settlement of mostly single-family homes fronting a granite revetment along the shore. Fort Matanzas National Monument guards the inlet to the north and Marineland lies to the south, giving this stretch of coast a quieter character than the beaches closer to St. Augustine. Public schools are part of the St. Johns County School District. There are no shops in Summer Haven itself; everyday services are up A1A in St. Augustine Beach and the historic city beyond.
